Is Vydra Derby’s Best Player So Far?

Derby County have enjoyed an impressive run this term in the English Championship. They remain in contention for a promotion to the top flight next term.

They are fifth place now, even though they are just ahead of sixth-placed Middlesbrough on goal difference and a point ahead of seventh-placed Bristol City but they have a game in hand.

The Rams have netted 55 goals after 37 league games. Matej Vydra has played a key role for the club, scoring 18 goals in all competitions. If not the outright best then he could be in contention for Player of the Year.

Aside Vydra, Curtis Davies has been in spectacular form. He joined from Hull City last summer and he has helped the club keep 17 clean sheets already. Derby have conceded just 34 goals with the defender playing a key role. Aside Curtis, Scott Carson has been instrumental in keeping the team from conceding goals.

Carson was named the best player last term due to his exceptional performance. He has kept it on this season, making vital saves.

Gary Rowett’s side would need to strong pedal in the final round of games to ensure they finish on a high. They are seven points behind third placed Fulham and fourth placed Aston Villa. There are games against Sunderland, Preston, Bolton and Wolves.
