Defender Curtis Davies has said that the club needs help to avoid losing Premier League status at the end of the season. Hull City place 19th on the current standings with 11 points after 14 weeks of top-flight football.

The Tigers suffered a 1-0 loss against Middlesbrough during the last round of games, deepening their woes in this term. For a side that started the season well with just 13 senior players, the fairy tale seems to be over. Six players joined in the last two days of the transfer window but they have not been able to pull the much-desired weight.

“Our signings have done their bit but they were last minute. I don’t believe the manager had time to explore all of his options,” Curtis Davies said of the additions.

Mike Phelan seems to be taking his time to fully immerse into the coaching role after he was confirmed on a permanent basis in October. Phelan is former manager Steve Bruce’s successor. He oversees a side that has the least number of goals this term in the Premier League with just 11 goals.

Hull signed Will Keane and James Weir from Manchester United, David Marshall from Cardiff, Markus Henriksen from AZ Alkmaar, Ryan Mason from Tottenham, and Dieumerci Mbokani from Dynamo Kiev between 30th -31st of August, just before the window closed.

“We need someone who can put the ball in the net. Our first shot on target was in the 92nd minute and that is not god enough,” Davies said.

The 31-year old performances in August earned him a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Month award, and he emphasized on a busy pre-season as the reason for his sharpness.

The Englishman thinks the fact that he played in all the pre-season games makes him more agile and vibrant at his job, he explained if there was a replacement, he would not have appeared in seven pre-season matches.

“That helped me hit the ground running this season and my form has been OK.” He added.

Davies did not feature for Hull in the last three months of last campaign. He was made as a scapegoat for the club’s relegation into the Championship.
